You are part of the Project Unit in the Facility Management Department (FMD) at Hanson College Waterloo, Ontario is under the Operations Division headed by the VP of Operations. FMD has two units; Maintenance Unit, and Project Unit. The Maintenance Unit is responsible for day-to-day facility management and maintenance activities, and the Project unit manages renovation of existing facility and new construction projects. These projects could range from building ramps to constructing new multi-storey building complexes to support the Hanson College Revitalization and Expansion Plan. FMD is headed by a Director. The Government of Ontario has passed a law, "the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) in 2005, requiring all public sector organizations to remove barriers in public spaces and buildings by June 2025 (this date is assumed for this assignment). Hanson College is a public sector organization, therefore, it is expected to comply with the AODA requirements. The VP of your division is responsible for ensuring the existing buildings and facilities on the Campus have been assessed for AODA compliance, and retrofit work has been identified and implemented by June 2024.
