Problem: Nurse educators are essential to organizational effectiveness because they ensure that employees and students meet education requirements to prove competency. A unit cannot be effective if nurses are providing unsafe care or have large gaps in education. In the academic setting an effective nurse educator trains students progressively through each semester until they graduate into new nurses, ready to serve patients in diverse settings. In any setting, nurse educators are the agents of change (Poindexter, 2022). They persistently seek to improve and adapt to provide the best and most evidence based care in the dynamic environment of healthcare (Poindexter, 2022). Nurse educators challenge all prospective and active nurses to be their best for the benefit of our patients. One improvement under way at my clinical site is a complete curriculum revision to adhere to AACN standards. While the school is still maintaining much of their concept based curriculum, they are shifting to a competency based system. This is a large change that leads to restructuring of lessons plans, assignment rubrics, syllabi, clinical evaluations, and so much more. As with any change, there will be early adopters and more resistant staff.
