Problem: While no single model of identity can explain who a person is, models of multicultural identity help counselors better understand clients and self in relation to clients. I am looking for a cultural identity model.
Consider your different cultural developments and how cultural identity aligns with each stage of the model. Examine each stage of the model and prepare at least one example of an event from your life that demonstrates each stage. If there are stages you have yet to complete, identify one possible example of what those stages might look like.
Discuss how living in a multicultural society affects clients who are seeking clinical mental health counseling services. In this exploration, consider how multicultural trends in our society may impact clients who are seeking or may benefit from counseling (e.g. immigration, marriage laws, etc.). Review the Fromme (2011) chapter on Ecosystemic Issues and Approaches to understand the importance of viewing the experience of clients in a systemic manner.
