By calling attention to identity, sexuality, politics, and history, women artists have dominated the art debates for the last several decades. How important to you is the component of identity in a work of art- recognizing your identity, the identity of the artist or the gender of the artist? In that women artists and artists of color have not been recognized in the past, how can women artists and artists of color be sufficiently recognized without distancing them from art history as we know it?
