While I can't think of a single identity or brand that has shaped me, I'll discuss the motives behind Marvel movies with superheroes, Disney movies, and movies like Harry Potter. All of these promote having courage and standing up for yourself and others in battles that they face. I love superhero movies and make-believe things such as superpowers and things of that sort. Behind all of these movies, specifically The Avengers, they go through a lot of emotional and physical changes, and no matter how hard the battles they faced, they never lose their morals and remain with the goal of protecting themselves and the world. Specific movies like Mulan or Princess and the Frog have significant effects on little girls who grew up watching these types of movies and don't get much representation. Mulan was a strong woman who didn't let men tell her what she could and couldn't do. Although what she did was risky, everything in life is, and she proves that you don't have to listen to a stereotype or go along with discrimination due to your gender. Princess Tiana has a huge influence over black girls all over the globe and shows that no matter how little support or help you have, you can overcome anything and always achieve your dreams. Tiana was very persistent in starting her own restaurant while dealing with the loss of her father and the fact that she became a frog. She overcame it all, and I believe every black girl or girls in general should see this movie at least once. More movies are coming out lately that dive deeper into certain cultures of Asians, African-Americans, Polynesians, Latinos, or even multi-race characters like Miles Morales. In a sense, these movies promote diversity and heroism across all communities so that no one feels superior to another or that they can't do a job that another race could. Movies like this allow kids to use their imagination and creativity to their fullest. I've recently gone to Universal Orlando, and my love for Harry Potter tempted me to buy a magic wand. I was right along with the other kids using my magic wand around the park to make pictures talk, to make owls move, etc. These movies truly instill a sense of imagination, teamwork, loyalty, and courage within those who may not believe that they've had those emotions empowered in them. I would love to see many more movies in the future, where characters of all races and cultures come together and work together as one, promoting healthy relationships.
