Introduction:In order to work effectively with others in a university or workplace setting, it is important to understand different cultural perspectives. The first step in acquiring cultural capabilities is to understand your own culture and the knowledge, experiences and behaviours that contribute to it.This assessment represents the next important stage in developing cultural self-awareness.

Task:Construct a mind-map as a visual representation to show your understanding and analysis of your cultural self. You are asked to show how your experience, knowledge and behaviour have all contributed to each offour elements that make up your culture.

Task details:

Choose four elements of your personal culture to represent in your mind map. These could relate to things like rituals, objects, activities, beliefs, places and people that you have identified as being important to you or have influenced the person you are today. It may be one of the things you considered in Assessment task 1A.

Be sure to clearly differentiate between experience, knowledge and behaviour. Hint: you can often do this by using past tense for experience, and present tense for knowledge and behaviour. Most importantly, Show depth of reflection on relationships between each cultural element and its aspects of experience, knowledge and behaviour. This example shows how this can be done in early brainstorm.

• What have I learned about myself from these experiences?

• How have these experiences shaped who I am and how I interact with the world in my behaviour?

• How does my knowledge and experience influence my behaviour?
