Problem
As you know, the two major political parties in the United States are Republicans and Democrats. How have these parties responded to what Noam Chomsky calls the two existential threats of our time, nuclear weapons and the climate crisis? Why is it notoriously difficult to mobilize citizens to take action on these twin dangers? How did the Supreme Court's actions in the 2000 election constitute a threat to our political system (see the Spike Lee video "We Wuz Robbed"), and why is a similar outcome possible in the 2020 election?
