How ethnicity is connected to culture and language

Problem: Race and ethnicity are both ways society groups people, but they mean totally different things. Race is usually based on physical traits like skin color or hair, and ethnicity is connected to culture and language. Even though people often talk about race like it's a biological fact, sociologists say that race is actually socially constructed. That means society decides what racial categories exist, who belongs in them, and what those categories are supposed to mean (Macionis, 2024). These change over time and vary across cultures. Ethnicity is also socially constructed because people choose which cultural groups they identify with, and society also decides which ethnic differences matter most. For example, many ethnic groups were once seen as "not white" in the U.S. but are now included in that category. Understanding that both race and ethnicity are social creations and not biological truths, helps us see how stereotypes and inequalities can start. How do ya'll think social media or news influence the way people understand race and ethnicity today? Reference: Macionis, J. J. (2024). Social problems (9th ed.). Pearson. Need Assignment Help?
