As you know from reading Chapter Three, people who work with victims, such as, law enforcement officers, may suffer from "compassion fatigue," or "burnout."  After reflecting upon this aspect of the reading, please provide at least one original suggestion as to how these individuals can avoid can avoid suffering from this type trauma. Your suggestion should be creative, yet also realistic. Also, after reading about physical harm (pp. 72-77), please point to one aspect that you found to be of interest. Please be sure to explain how this particular point of interest furthers our understanding of crime victimization. Next, in Chapter Four, the authors do not have much to say about the crime of arson, even though it is a Type 1 Crime. Why do you suppose the authors opted not to provide a discussion of arson? Elaborate. Next, given that the alarming frequency in which male serial killers tend to target female prostitutes, please provide one strategy that law enforcement officials could in order to help protect this very vulnerable population. Be creative, yet realistic. And, as you know from reading Chapter Four, it is very rare for men to be sexually assaulted. However, when a male is the victim of a sexual assault, it may often go unreported. After reflecting upon the reading, what can be done to encourage males who are victims of sexual assault to report this crime to police. Fully elaborate. Finally, once you have answered all of the above questions, please pose an original thinking question to the class.
