Assignment:
The lesson on art and power shows how power is portrayed, created, and perpetuated through visual tactics. It also explores the visual tactics used throughout history to undermined or thwart power. This is your chance to dig deeper into one artwork's representation of power and learn more.
1. Choose ONE

Then research the artwork. Focus on college-level sources (museum and government websites, non-profit organizations like Khan Academy, Smarthistory, Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History, etc).
2. Write 1 to 2 paragraphs analyzing the artwork, explaining how it visually and thematically represents power.
-Introduce your artwork in a few sentences. Identify your artwork (give the artist, title, date, location, if known) and then describe it briefly.
-Your essay should address what form of power is represented, and how the image conveys power visually or thematically.
How does the artwork represent power? What form of power? Whose power is shown, and how? The work should touch upon a topic related to power that is discussed in the textbook chapter or lesson on Art & Power (e.g., images of war, historical or documentary images, iconoclasm, etc). The specific topic is up to you-the point is to use an artwork of your choice as a focal point for a discussion of how artwork engages with power.
3. Include a brief list of your bibliographic sources.
Suggested length: 1 to 2 paragraphs (150 to 250 words).
