Feminism has been criticized for its lack of inclusion of other axes of identity, namely, sexuality, race, and disability. Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw's analytic term, "intersectionality," remedies issues with studying identity as one-dimensional and instead calls for theorists to analyze identity as intersecting, often complicated praxis of privilege and oppression that help and hinder our ability as individuals to navigate social interactions. At its core, the type of issue illustrated above (that is not exclusive only to feminism!) deals with a lack of intersection for diverse approaches. In other words, this issue illuminates gaps in the scholarly conversation that still has yet to be filled. The difficulty arises in feminism when totalizing gestures of femininity are created.
