Women in Art History: Take some time to research the life and work of one female artist from either the Textbook, the list attached below, or from the Power-Point at the bottom of this Module.
Instructions:
Write a one page essay touching upon the following:
1. Discuss how the artists particular background has affected both the aesthetics and content of their work. This will require you to perform a solid amount of personal research on the history of the selected artist. Providing a brief biography will assist the overall content for both this response and the overall essay.
2. How do you think the artist addresses issues that are particular to being a woman in contemporary society? Note: your answer does not have to be affirmative as related to this proposition. Describe examples of their work and how they relate to your argument.
3. Do you think that female artists are equally represented in art historical scholarship, as compared to their male contemporaries? Why or Why not? Instead of making a blanket statement, please provide an informed discussion and back up your response with a formulated argument.
