Problem
At the end of "The Day They Burned the Books," Eddies mother launches an all-out assault on English Literature. Both of the colonial pieces we've read focus on the function of language and literature as a colonizing force. How do they agree/disagree about the influence of language on a colonized people and their cultures? How do they present language? *Note, Achebe grew up speaking English and Igbo and Rhys grew up speaking English and a French Creole (an influence of former colonizers that is the vernacular in Dominica).
