This video is one that every educator should watch; it clearly shows how powerful labels and bias can be in a classroom environment. The exercise is showing how quickly people started treating others differently when they thought one group was better than the other group. The children attitudes began to change when they were being divided by color even though they all were friends before the activity. This is how discrimination can affect friendships, relationships, one's behavior and self-confidence.
When the teacher explained how one eye color group was better than the other eye color group, the children who were labeled "superior" began mistreating the other eye color group. Once the roles were changed, the other children displayed the same attitudes. This scenario really showed how labels can influence people and how people can treat others just by what they believe.
It was amazing to see how quickly children accepted the label they were given and how they began to change, the children that were less than became discouraged and they seemed more quieter and not participating.
The children's body language revealed how discrimination can affect emotions and confidence. The children that are labeled less than began to show signs of frustration and withdrawn causing less participation. The superior children were more confident and outspoken. This shows that labeling and expectations can be powerful, it shows how stereotypes and labels can influence how individuals think about their abilities. Educators need to make sure that they are intentionally developing anti-bias practices and address discrimination. Educators need to help children understand the importance of respecting diversity and fairness. By creating inclusive classrooms and teaching children to appreciate differences, educators can help prevent bias and discrimination. These practices also help children learn empathy and encourage them to treat others with kindness and respect.
Overall, the video was a powerful example of how discrimination and bias can affect people emotionally, socially, and academically. It also highlights the important role educators play in promoting fairness and helping children understand the value of respecting others. Need Assignment Help?
