Problem: I have an assignment to write a critical analysis essay on development and how the cultural strengths and weaknesses influence development in PNG. In PNG we have two main cultures where one is patrinial and other is matrinial. In patrinial land owner kinship is passed onto male while in matrinial kinship is passed onto female. Males in the patrinial structure devide land amongst them and the same with females in matrinial kinship structure. But there is another structure more superior to kinship structure is the collective ownership by clan or tribe members who protect and defend land and it's boundaries from the rival clans or tribes. Without this collective ownership structure of clan or tribe, the kinship transfer of land cannot exist. How can development in PNG be consistent with these varying informal structures? Should the collective ownership structure be at the forefront of development and benefits thereafter can be shared among them. Who owns what or who gets how much? Need Assignment Help?
