One criminal justice topic that is no exception to this is that of gun violence in the United States. Gun violence has been a hot topic for many years, and in spite of countless sets of data coming out, and reforms being suggested, it is still a rather prevalent issue that is faced. Many issues, gun violence included, can be examined under multiple theories and it can still be a valid and supported viewpoint, and oftentimes utilizing multiple theories can strengthen an argument. The particular issue of gun violence, like many others, can be examined through the three general dependent variables that Bernard and Engel (2001) recognize. Those variables are as follows: "the individual behavior of criminal justice agents, the organizational behavior of criminal justice organizations, and the aggregate behavior of the criminal justice system and its components.
