What opportunities are out there within the music industry to network?
A. What three events can you attend that combine your personal and professional interests? Explain why they combine your interests and try to identify at least one person who may be in attendance that you would like to meet.
B. What three industry organizations would you like to participate in and make contributions to? Explain what kind of value you believe you can bring to each of the organizations.
C. Networking often happens in unexpected places and times. What are five unexpected places where you might meet new people to add to your professional network? How can you be prepared for these opportunities?
Networking is all about meeting people and building relationships. Think back about an event, industry meeting, interview or the like that you've attended in the past that you have met someone you have wanted to stay in contact with. Reflect on the experience and your efforts to network. Assess your strengths, areas for improvement, and actions during and after the event.
Then answer the following questions:
A. Was this a good networking opportunity for you? Why or why not? Who did you meet and what kind of network opportunities did this open up? If it was not a good networking opportunity for you, explain why.
B. Think back about your actions and behaviors during this networking opportunity. How well did you represent yourself? What were your strengths and areas of improvement? Based on that assessment, what action steps can you take to improve your networking skills in the future?
C. You'll make connections everywhere you go. When you meet someone who can be of value to your network, what steps will you take to keep the communication going? How will you make sure that you are being consistent?
