The video can benefit counselors and educators because it explains various types of trauma and describes how those behaviors may manifest in a school setting. When school counselors begin planning for the school year, targeted prevention, intervention, and post-crisis plans should be included. Life is unpredictable, and it is better to be prepared to support students experiencing trauma or, in the unfortunate event of a school crisis, respond effectively. School counselors can also use the information presented in the video for staff trainings, so faculty members have the necessary tools to handle students experiencing trauma or in the event of an unexpected death or school crisis.
How I Will Use the Information:
In my district, this year alone, we have had two staff members from two different schools die suddenly. Additionally, we have, unfortunately, had student deaths almost every school year. As pointed out by Poland and Ferguson (2025), having a safety and crisis response team already in place is a critical first step for schools to respond appropriately in times of tragedy (p. 30). I will use the information in the video as a reminder to continue paying close attention to what my students are experiencing and to encourage discussions about grief, trauma, and how it affects our lives. Lastly, suggesting district-wide professional development on managing trauma responses in the classroom may be a good training for teachers.
