Discussion Post: Sodium Surprises
Purpose: Future health care professionals need to become comfortable sharing information about food and nutrition. In doing so, students must be sure to use reliable sources of information, to interpret that information accurately and to communicate it clearly.
These discussions will give you the opportunity to practice the skills that are used when educating clients about the connections between lifestyle and health.
Task: After reading chapter 9 and watching the chapter 9 lecture, reply to this post with the following information:
1) The name of a high sodium food from your cupboard or found online. A high sodium food contains more than 400 mg per serving.
2) The sodium content (in mg) of one serving of that food. Indicate the serving size.
3) A photo of the nutrition facts label for that food (embed image please).
4) A food that would substitute with less sodium. Include the serving size, sodium content and a photo.
