Girl is significantly underweight due to ongoing aversion

Problem:

A 9-year-old girl is significantly underweight due to her ongoing aversion to the sensory characteristics of many food groups. For instance, she does not like the texture of most fruits and vegetables, the taste of dairy products, or the appearance of fish, poultry, and beef. She will drink diet soda and occasional fruit juices. She has been struggling for about 1 year with these issues and is now maintained on enteral feedings. She does not have any other health problems. She had an uneventful perinatal period, normal developmental milestones, and good premorbid social functioning (e.g., several good friends, excellent academic functioning, participation in multiple extracurricular activities). She was especially proud of being a starting point guard on the grade-school basketball team. Her parents report that her physician has restricted her from playing sports until she is able to attain a healthy weight. During her last office visit, she tried to convince the nurse to let her keep her coat on while standing on the scale, and she had filled her coat pockets with rocks. She is embarrassed of her thin appearance, and she wants to look more like her teammates again. Her teachers report that she has been isolating herself from peers and seems to have increased interpersonal sensitivity. Which one of the following is the most likely diagnosis? Anorexia nervosa Autism spectrum disorder Avoidant personality disorder Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder. Need Assignment Help?
