Find the stereotypes discussed in this section run contrary

Problem

My role in the family (at least I believe it to be) is being the rock. A lot of my family members rely on me to be there for them emotionally and physically, especially my younger siblings. I am the oldest child and that always came with a lot of familial responsibility whether you look at it from the standpoint of household chores, early-morning routines, or taking care of my brothers and sisters. My parents were about 18 and 19 when they had me so a lot of the milestones in my life were new, first-time experiences and as my siblings encounter these moments I can see how things have changed fundamentally.

In regards to my development and personality, I find that the stereotypes discussed in this section run contrary to how I perceive myself. For example, as the older sister who took on a tremendous amount of responsibility I am assertive, hard-headed, and determined which can sometimes run along the stereotypes typical of a male. I grew up being taught that crying and other forms of expression such as that were weak and that the proper thing to do was "man-up" and find a solution to the problem. Therefore, I believe that a lot of those qualities I derived from that train of thought I was given or exposed too. However, I will say that I do have feminine stereotypes such as being affectionate, kind, and appreciative.
