In my view, personality is not entirely predetermined at birth and is shaped by genetic and environmental factors that are interwoven by a person's social experiences. While certain traits, such as temperament, can be biologically rooted and manifested in early childhood it does not solely dictate our personality. There are various influences like family dynamics, social interactions, education, and cultural norms that all play significant roles in shaping an individual's personality over their life span. This can be illustrated from the earliest stages of life through the interpersonal relationships between infants and their caregivers. For instance, after birth infants use not only their visual or auditory cues but their sense of touch to respond and distinguish between different textures and are able to use it to recognize their parents. Through mutual positive interactions attunement is developed and influences a child's personality and overall development in creating secure attachments, healthy relationships, and allows them to have a sense of self and social competence as caregivers model behavior through face-to face play. However, in contrast if an infant's caregiver mistreats them or misreads social cues or responds ineffectively, such as in the case where parents who experience depression, attachment wounds can occur and lead to negative emotional and behavioral outcomes for infants and disrupt the bonding process between the infant and their caregiver.
