Factors for creating successful groups and group cohesion

Problem: This week your task is to create a checklist, using the template provided in the Weekly Resources, that might assist you in remembering these factors for creating successful groups and group cohesion.

Your checklist will consist of three sections that include:

1. Factors and characteristics of group members you will assess to rule-in or rule-out group membership. For example, you might consider if a potential member is actively engaged in substance use and if this will be a fit for your group. This section of your checklist would be used prior to the group beginning or being formed or as you assess new members entering the group. Need Assignment Help?

Include at least six factors in this section

2. Assessment of cohesion and group progress. This is a section of the chart you will use to assess an active group. For example, you might include the factor of openness and how much the group is sharing to assess progress and cohesion.

Include at least five factors in this section

3. Describe ways a facilitator can increase group cohesion and progress for all members and create an inclusive and cultural-sensitive environment. In this section, describe things a group leader can do such as offering validating statements, to enhance cohesion and progress in the group, and be sensitive to cultural diversity.

Include at least six factors in this section, three of which should include aspects related to cultural sensitivity.

At the beginning of your checklist, be sure to include directions for how to use and interpret the checklist.

Length: 2-3 page checklist with instructions for use, not including title or reference pages

References: Include a minimum of 3 scholarly resources to support the items in your checklist
