Description-

Take a moment to explore your new classroom and introduce yourself to your fellow classmates. What are you excited about learning? What do you think will be most challenging? Need Assignment Help?

Hello class! My name is Carrie and I reside in a suburb north of Detroit with my soon to be 18 year old Wyatt who lives with autism spectrum and cat Frankie. I have been in school pursuing a path as a therapist since 2015. I obtained a BA in 2020, then an MA in 2024 from UAGC before making the decision to specialize in Trauma-focused clinical psychology. I have been working as a retail execution specialist , which is basically performing audits and building displays, sine 2020 and it is very flexible so I can concentrate on school. My hobbies include singing, leisurely drives, spending time in nature, walking/hiking, bike riding, and especially during the winter months, reading and doing research on personal interests.

I am excited to learn everything since I have a thirst for knowledge. Having grown up where it is extremely diverse, I am already able to comprehend the complexities of this course.

Answered questions

1. Which weekly objectives do you have prior knowledge of and to what extent?

I possess a foundational understanding of various issues in human sexuality, particularly those related to diversity and inclusion. My prior knowledge comes largely from personal life experiences, having interacted with a wide range of individuals from different backgrounds and identities. Living in a diverse community has provided me with unique insights into the complexities of human sexuality, including aspects related to sexual orientation and gender identity. Furthermore, my engagements with transgender individuals have deepened my awareness of the challenges and nuances they face, which has also driven me to conduct additional reading and research. This has cultivated a desire in me to compare empirical studies and anecdotal evidence, reinforcing my understanding of this dynamic field. I believe this experiential knowledge will enhance my participation in discussions and activities, as it offers a real-world context to complement the theoretical frameworks presented in the course.

2. Which weekly objectives do you have no prior knowledge of?

Although I have some knowledge of the historical aspects of human sexuality, particularly in relation to gender roles and sexual orientation, I acknowledge that there are numerous facets of this field that I still need to investigate. As I grow older, I find myself especially curious about the connection between aging and sexuality, particularly since societal views on sexual expression can change as people progress through various life stages. Topics like sexual health in older adults, how aging affects sexual function, and the social stigmas associated with sexuality in later life are areas where I feel I lack sufficient information. I am eager to learn how the aging process impacts sexual identity and expression, as well as what resources or adjustments can facilitate healthy sexual aging. Acquiring this knowledge will enable me to better navigate my own experiences as I age and those of the people around me.

3. What course-related topics would you like to discuss with your instructor and classmates?  What questions or concerns do you have about this course?

Currently, I don't have specific questions, but I'm open to exploring a variety of topics that may arise during our discussions. I'm particularly interested in areas such as the effect of cultural attitudes on sexual identity and the role of sexual education in encouraging healthy aging. Engaging in conversations about these issues with my peers and instructor can enrich our understanding of how societal norms influence individual experiences. I'm also curious about the resources available to help us better educate ourselves on these subjects. As questions come up, especially regarding course content or the relevance of theories to real-life situations, I will not hesitate to seek clarification. I view this course as an opportunity for both personal development and academic achievement, and I aim to participate actively to help guide discussions and learn from the diverse perspectives in our class.
