Your portfolio is an example of you and your abilities as a teacher. Showcase yourself well. Make sure that the portfolio is neat and well put together. Follow the instructions below so that it is divided in an easy and recognizable format.

In the very front should be a one page explanation of you educational philosophy and your mission statement for working with young children. This should be eye catching and descriptive enough that if it is the only thing an employer or parent looks at in your portfolio, it will give the reader an accurate picture as to why you are a good candidate to work with young children.

Section One:

Section One is dedicated to your education this section should contain transcripts and diplomas for all formal education that you receive. If there are any reports from teachers, counselors or administrators that speak to your abilities as a student and citizen they should also go in this section. Job references do not belong here, they should be saved for a later section.

Section Two:

Section Two should have all records that indicate your participation in conferences and continuing education classes. Put your certificates in order from earliest to latest. Any thank you notes or certificates that show your contributions to professional organizations or conferences should also be placed in the section. This is important for easy access to continuing your accreditation with both Child Care administration and with the Office Of Credentialing. The use of plastic page protectors is recommended.

Section Three:

This section is for you to showcase your abilities as an Early Childhood Professional. Place samples of curriculum that you have created. Also any writings that you have completed should go in this section. Include also samples of any newsletters or daily notes or other samples of parent correspondence. If you have created any adult learning lessons like parent pot luck dinner discussions or staff meeting shared experiences put those notes in this section. This is your best chance to showcase your Teaching creativity and ability; please take the time to fill this section with your best work.

Create a list of 10 classroom accommodations or modifications a teacher can make for students with developmental delays in (5) speech/language and (5) cognitive areas.
