I have been asked to write a short 1-2 page philosophy essay for my ancient philosophy course. I am to read the following document, in which I have attached for your viewing. I then write my essay according to the following criteria-
You just found the ring of Gyges, which makes you invisible and makes it really easy to get away with a lot of injustice. Explain to me first, why does Socrates think you shouldn't use it for that purpose? Next, evaluate his arguments. Explain why they are strong or weak. Finally, explain why you would or would not use the ring for injustice. Would profiting from injustice without penalty make your life better?
Again, make sure you clearly and accurately describe what Socrates has to say, but otherwise feel free to use your imagination and have some fun with it.
If you're having trouble with getting 1-2 pages on any of these, take a closer look at the arguments you're supposed to be presenting. You probably need to dig deeper and present the philosopher's position in more detail. Think of it this way, if it takes 4 pages for Socrates to make a point, there's probably enough material in there for you you to make it 1-2 pages.
