Imagine that you are attending a networking event in whatever field you plan to pursue. At the event you see the hiring manager of an organization where you would love to work. From across the room, you observe another job candidate talking to the hiring manager. A minute or so into the conversation, the hiring manager makes a face as if they are annoyed, then walks away from the job candidate. The candidate has clearly done something wrong. A while later, after you see that the hiring manager is in a good mood again, you finally see them standing alone for a moment. Seizing the opportunity, you decide to approach.
First, list 2 possible actions the other candidate might have taken in the conversation that would indicate low emotional intelligence. Make sure to explain which of the 4 components of emotional intelligence each behaviour falls under. Then, list 3 actions you would take in the conversation with the hiring manager that would help you to make a good impression and increase the chances of getting hired. Be as specific as possible to explain what you would do and why it would make a good impression.
