Explain whether photography is a true art form

Discussion Post

Photography is probably one of the greatest inventions of all time, but is it art? "For some time, photography was not considered an art. Indeed, some people today do not see it as an art because they assume the photograph is an exact replica of what is in front of the camera lens" (Martin, 2019, p.281). Explain whether photography is a true art form. Martin (2019) concludes chapter 11 by explaining that, "Many contemporary photographers are searching for new ways of photographic seeing based on the capacity of digital cameras and computers to transform and manipulate images. They are more intent on altering rather than recording reality" (p. 298). How much of what we see in a photo is real? Does this matter? Explain.
