Problem:
Surprisingly, I was unaware that there were so many various branches of psychology. I was wowed when I saw how many branches and sub-branches there was. The one that interest me the most, based on how they work with people and how it aligns with my work position, is Community Psychology. Two facts that I learned are Community Psychologists do not work with people in order to help them cope with their circumstances. However, they work on supporting and empowering those they work with to change their circumstances and develop stronger communities. Another fact is that they blend research and practice, partnering with diverse citizens to plan and implement community change. As a Family Advocate, I can relate to what a Community Psychologist does. In my position, I am working with families with the community I live and work in from a strength-based approach. We partner with several agencies that are able to provide and support the families in most situations. We bring these resources in to the school so that families are able to receive them directly. Doing this we are able to bring community together which will eventually make them stronger. Community Psychology was very interesting to me. I would want to more about it like, what are some of the core values or key concepts I should know in order to better understand the entire scope of what it is. Another thing I would like to know is, if I wanted to pursue this as a career choice, what are the requirements needed. Need Assignment Help?
