Problem:
Industrial-Organizational psychology I-O studies workplace behavior. It applies psychological principles to improve performance and organizational effectiveness. This branch interests me because it aligns with social work by promoting a supportive working environments that benefit both employees and clients. Two facts I learned are: (1) I-O psychologists address workplace issues such as hiring, training, and motivation (American Psychological Association [APA], 2013), and (2) they improve organizational health and reduce turnover (APA, 2022). I would like to learn more about the tools used to assess workplace well-being and employee performance. Margaret Heffernan's TED Talk "Why it's time to forget the pecking order at work" (2015) illustrates relevance. She highlights how collaboration and supportive environments improve outcomes, reflecting how I-O psychology can help social work organizations create healthier and happier workplaces for staff and the populations they serve.
