Assignment task:
1) First, take a position. Yes, there are objective moral laws/facts! Or no, morality is not objective!
2) Second, present a case for your position. Give an argument for objective morality, or give one against.
3) Third, explain the weakness of your position.
4) Fourth, respond to the weakness. Given this weakness, why is your position still correct?
5) Fifth, think about a moral argument you have recently had with someone. Choose an argument that occurred over a serious and controversial contemporary issue (reproductive rights, gun control, climate change, transgender rights, etc.).
What assumptions did you make about morality when you had that argument? Were you a realist, or were you an anti-realist? Why?
6) Finally, having completed this week's readings and viewings, and having done this exercise, speculate: Does your opinion count? Why?
