Eventually, he found herself seriously in debt as a result of a number of unfortunate purchases of goods that spoiled before he could find a market for them, and he made a voluntary assignment in bankruptcy. A few weeks later, while still an undischarged bankrupt, he purchased $1600 worth of farm produce on credit from a farmer who was unaware of the fact that he was an undischarged bankrupt. Sharp sold part of the goods at a profit to a friend, and kept the remainder of the food for her own use.
