Dag Hammarskjöld was a significant historical figure who was connected with the UN. The UN's second Secretary-General, Dag Hammarskjöld, held the position from 1953 until 1961. Swedish diplomat Hammarskjöld played a key role in the UN's participation in the Congo Crisis and the Suez Crisis. In 1961, Hammarskjöld received a posthumous Nobel Peace Prize.
Kofi Annan was a significant historical figure who also worked with the UN. From 1997 until 2006, Annan was the seventh Secretary-General of the UN. The UN's participation in the Kosovo War and the War in Afghanistan was made possible in large part by Ghanaian diplomat Kofi Annan. In 2001, Annan received the Nobel Peace Prize.
