Kofi Annan was a significant historical figure who also worked with the UN. From 1997 until 2006, Annan was the seventh Secretary-General of the UN. The UN's participation in the Kosovo War and the War in Afghanistan was made possible in large part by Ghanaian diplomat Kofi Annan. In 2001, Annan received the Nobel Peace Prize.
