1. Explain the ethical theory of teleology and its relevance to discussions about the “What Would You Do” video regarding the bagboy with Down Syndrome. You must include

(a) two or more synonyms;

(b) the major philosophers (at least two);

(c) definitions of the two main branches of teleology and who was the proponent of each; (d) where teleology falls on the Kohlberg pyramid (and explain the other five levels in relationship to the teleological level;

(e) the gender that Kohlberg thinks is most likely to be a teleologist, and why;

(f) explain why a discussion of teleology was relevant in our review of the “What Would You Do” video regarding the bagboy with Down Syndrome.

2. Explain the ethical theory of deontology and its relevance to discussions regarding the death penalty. you must include

(a) one or more synonyms;

(b) the major philosopher;

(c) where deontology falls on the Kohlberg pyramid (and explain the other five levels in relationship to the deontological level);

(d) the gender that Kohlberg thinks is most likely to be a deontologist,

(e) Gilligan’s criticism of deontology’s position versus teleology’s position in the pyramid;

(f) discuss the death penalty in light of the deontological perspective versus the teleological perspective. (That is, if a deontologist is in favor of the death penalty, what would be the reason; if a deontologist is opposed to the death penalty, what would be the reason; if a teleologist is in favor of the death penalty, what would be the reason; if a teleologist is opposed to the death penalty, what would be the reason.

3. Explain the communism/socialism/pure capitalism continuum. You must

(a) explain each of those concepts, as well as libertarianism and capitalism-that-has-socialist-features (such as the U.S.);

(b) name the major proponents of communism (and quote him) and pure capitalism (and quote her);

(c) draw a continuum and place the five concepts in the correct locations;

(d) give an example of at least one country for each concept (if no country has that concept, say so);

(e) give three examples of ways in which truly socialist countries (think Norway) differ from the United States;

(f) explain why pure communism is impossible to achieve.
