Explain the Autonomic neuropathy
It leads to dry skin due to decreased sweating. Dryness of the skin leads to cracking which makes entry of infection in to the deeper plane easier. It also leads to decreased blood flow to wounded or infected areas of the foot. Due to autonomic neuropathy there is decreased blood flow to skin and subcutaneous tissue. It contributes in delayed healing of ulcers. There is increased bone resorption leading to osteopenia i.e. decreased in calcium content of the bones. These bones are vulnerable to fractures leading to foot instability and deformities (Charcot's Foot)
