Reconstruction is often portrayed as an "unfinished revolution" by historians; meaning that it offered African Americans some opportunity for advancement, but stopped well short of full inclusion and full protected Constitutional rights for African Americans. Explain some of the benefits African Americans enjoyed during the Reconstruction period (schools, Freedman's Bureau, free labor). Also, point out some of the drawbacks and problems with Reconstruction, why was this revolution "unfinished"?
