Problem:
For this journal assignment, you will reflect on your life up to now and address the following in a two to three-page reflection: Explain how you were taught to express your gender. Identify an example of "gender-normative" behavior or activity that you engaged in as a child. Identify an example in which you transgressed (did not behave according to) gender norms. Examine how (or if) your family reinforce(d) traditional gender expectations for you. For example, were there activities or behaviors they encouraged you to take on (or prevented you from taking on) based on your sex assigned at birth? Speculate about the treatment of opposite sex siblings and how they have been treated differently. If you have siblings of the opposite sex (or close friends/family members), you may also include examples to support your speculations. Distinguish how (or if) your friendships have been influenced by your gendered self. Evaluate how (or if) your gendered self-influenced your romantic desires. Consider writing about your first crush! Please use specific examples from your life to answer questions and illustrate the concepts. You should integrate concepts from this week's materials into your journal reflection; however, the point of this assignment is to allow you a forum to explore your own ideas rather than simply repeating what you have learned. You will be graded on whether you gave evidence that you understand the sociological concepts that you have learned. Need Assignment Help?
