Respond to this discussion post in brief Art therapy involves the use of creative techniques such as drawing, painting, collage, sculpting, or coloring to help people express themselves artistically and examine the psychological and emotional undertones in the art. It can help with the following: Emotion exploration, Self-esteem problems, Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Grief, Personality disorders, Physical illness and disorders. Art therapy integrates psychotherapy and some form of visual arts as a specific, stand-alone form of therapy, but it is also used in combination with other types of therapy. An example would be using a artwork painting in order to help someone out with their grief over losing someone important to them in their life. Some of the benefits that art therapy has provided: 1. Perception and self-perception: Art helped the participants focus on the present moment, identify their emotional responses, and connect their emotions and body awareness. 2. Personal Integration: They strengthened their identity and self-range. 3. Emotion and impulse regulation: They improved the ability to regulate and control emotions. 4. Behavior Change: They learned to change their behavioral responses to themselves and others, perhaps through the self-directed nature of art making. 5. Insight and Compression: They verbalized their emotions and emotions. Some negative effects that art therapy can give include: 1. Higher Levels of stress or Anxiety 2. Difficulty coping if therapy is abruptly terminated 3. Surfacing emotions without effectively processing them.
