Details of Task
The purpose of this assignment is to examine best practice guidelines and recommendations from the literature on a specific clinical topic. This assignment will demonstrate your ability to critically reflect and analyse if current nursing practice reflects best practice recommendations from the literature.
Each student will choose one of the following topics
1. Use of suction in patients with UWSD (underwater seal drain)
2. Frusemide in patients with acute pulmonary oedema
3. NGT (Nasogastric tube) insertion in patients with acute pancreatitis
4. Patient cooling following trauma
5. Use of oxygen in patients with cardiac chest pain
Please note: In preparing for this assessment it is important for students to remember that the focus of the assignment is not on the assessment or management of a patient with a disease (e.g. Pneumothorax, pulmonary oedema, pancreatitis) rather the focus should be
the critique of the research regarding one aspect of the management of the disease (e.g. the use of suction in UWSD).
