I have several clients going through an HRIS implementation now, so it's critical to understand the background. This includes who will use it, how will they use it, what are the data points for reporting purposes, project team, and communication to employees to name a few areas. Here are some other areas to consider based on chapters 3 and 4: Specific data from the HRIS database fit into three categories: Information about people, such as biographical information and competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities, and other factors) Information about the organization, such as jobs, positions, job specifications, organizational structure, compensation, employee/labor relations, and legally required data Data that are created as a result of the interaction of the first two categories, for example, individual job history, performance appraisals, and compensation information During any type of new initiatives, HR practitioners will need to consider the fact that employees may fear change for several reasons.

Those fears include general concern with new procedures and plans, fear of job security, concern with the ability to master the new program/system. Training, education, and communication can all help in minimizing fear of the change. Training programs and education can help employees become comfortable and knowledgeable about the new programs/system. Training programs have an added benefit of providing a “safe” environment for the employee to learn and make mistakes. Communication about the change (e.g., why it is needed, how it will happen, the resources that are available) can help employees understand, appreciate and prepare for the change.
