Estimate the costs of materials and time

Discuss the below:

Navigational Aid for University Campus.

University hosts Open Houses for prospective students and parents regularly. The tours are normally organised and guided. However, getting to the starting point of the tour, and returning to the parked car after the tour, and travelling through the tunnel, can be problematic, as most locations are identified in campus-centric terminology. For example, your lecture is in RC 154. My office is merely identified as Russ 238 on the university website.?Your job is to identify the root cause(s) of getting lost on campus, and come up with recommendations for the design of a navigational aid to help visitors and/or new students.

Group Project Proposal Outline

Your proposal should not be more than 2 pages (double-spaced). It is a business document and should read like one. Use professional language and be concise. Your client may not be a Human Factors expert, so technical terms should be explained or kept to a minimum.

Your goal is to convey to the client that you know what you are doing, you understand the problem, and that you will be able to deliver the final product in a timely manner.

There is no strict format for the proposal. I am looking for concrete work and some creativity. You may want to organise the proposal using the following sub-headings.

I. Project title and brief description

Even though this has been provided for you, you should restate the problem that you are trying to solve in this project. This will show your client that you have understood the requirements and that your interpretation of the problem is similar to theirs. This is especially important when the problem is open-ended and vague. Sometimes the clients themselves can not define the problem in definite terms, and rely on consultants to tell them what the problem is and what needs to be done.

II. Goals of the project

The goals of the project have also been provided for you. You should expand the high level goals and break them down into more detailed goals, to show that you know what the necessary steps are leading up to the final product.

III. Methodology

This is the most important part of the proposal. In this section, you should outline your plans to achieve your goals and follow a logical order. This should show that you know what you are doing. Refer to your notes on human reliability analysis. Do not provide too much detail. You may want to talk about some options or possibilities for the final design, but make it clear that the outcome depends on the work you propose to do.

IV. Timeline?Provide a rough timeline for each milestone in your project. Be realistic.

V . Budget

Estimate the costs of materials and time for your team to work on this project. Don't forget the costs of producing the final report and any prototypes. Remember, this is not what it will cost you, but what you charge your client.
