Question: The soil had the pore water pressure coefficients as follows: A=0.8 and B=0.97. The drained Young's modulus was 6000 kN/m- and the undrained Young's modulus was 1500 kN/m-. The drained Poisson's ratio was 0.2 and the undrained Poisson's ratio was 0.5. Due to the construction of an embankment, the effective vertical and horizontal stresses in this saturated soil mass increased by 60 kN/m- and 40 kN/m-, respectively. Estimate the change in the volumetric strain after a relatively long period of time after the excess pore water pressure has dissipated.
