Please write an essay of at least FIVE FULL PAGES on ONE of the following. To receive a passing grade your paper must follow these guidelines:
a) 1″ margins on all sides; double spaced; 12 pt. roman font; at least FIVE PAGES IN FULL
b) Include an introduction, a well-organized main body, and a conclusion
c) Support your ideas with specific examples from the texts, including citations, i.e. line #s and page # as well as ideas from class lectures. Do not simply retell the story. Do not quote excessively from the text. Do not use references from outside texts or sources, including the internet.
d) Write for an informed audience (i.e. Me)
Write on ONE (1) of the following:
1) Did the ancient Hebrews and Greeks have a similar concept about what makes a hero and how he or she functions in a society? Discuss by comparing and contrasting the function of one “hero” from the Old Testament and one from the Odyssey.
2) Read closely Odysseus’ encounter/ relationship with the nymph (Calypso) in book 5 of the Odyssey. Pick one of the alternatives below, and justify your choice:
a) Live forever in a tropical paradise with a luscious sex partner who is ready and eager to satisfy your every fantasy, and who will make you immortal OR
b) Go home to your aging spouse, with whom you grow old and die.
Be sure to take a stance, (live or die) and use the text as a basis of evidence for why you would make the choice that you make. Also, it is mandatory that you use the Bible, as text, to prove or disprove why your theory is best. Please note, there are no right and wrong answers, however, it is necessary that you take a stance.
Also note, the Bible is not the TRUTH unless you say so in your paper.
