ASSIGNMENT:
Assignment must be typed. Label axes clearly. When using charts, depending on the value, use the largest denomination possible (for example, use trillion, if not possible use billion, if not possible use million and so on). Write answer in short underneath the charts and tables. No long answer is required. You can work in-group.
1. Using data on GDP (in current US dollar) for the latest year show the largest 10 countries in the world (a bar chart would do). Do the same for GDP at purchasing power parity.
2. How has Canada’s share in global GDP (based on US dollar) changed (a graph for years 1993, 2003 and 2013 will suffice)?
3. How have the shares of global trade of goods and services in GDP changed in the last 30 years? Show three lines (goods, services and total) in a graph.
4. Based on value of trade on goods and services for the latest (2013) year, show which countries are larger global exporters and importers than Canada (two charts, one each for exporters and importers, are needed)?
5. Which of these countries are the most trade-oriented ones (using trade share in GDP)?
6. What was Canada’s trade-orientation in the past (1993 and 2003), compared to its position in exports in 2013? Show with three bars in a chart.
7. How has the shares of goods export and import changed for developed, developing countries and Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC) as a group for the last two decades (each chart with three lines, need one chart each for exports and imports).
8. Using average annual growth rates during these two periods (1993-2003 and 2003-2013) compare Canada’s export performance with that of BRIC, and other G7 countries. What do you find?
9. By combining information on Canada’s trade balance (TB) account with GDP (in Question 1), what can you say about the relationship between Gross National Expenditure and GDP for the last two decades
