Problem
The conflicts playing out in Yemen, Syria and Iraq are viewed by many observers of the Middle East through a sectarian lens of an intensifying proxy war between the predominantly Sunni Muslim Saudi Arab and the predominantly Shi'a Muslim Islamic Republic of Iran.
In fact, the same observers conclude that all-out war between Saudi and Iranian coalitions seem more likely now than at any point in recent history.
Do you think sectarianism and the divide between Shi'a and Sunni is a defining feature of the current Middle East? Do you think the region will be increasingly divided between these two religious groupings making a war of coalitions inevitable? Why or why not?
