You will submit a journal entry of that analyzes a situation in the past 20 years in which two factions on a significant issue escalated the issue, resulting in the creation of a rigid us-versus-them situation. View this situation historically and critically. These questions can help get you started:
1) Do you see a similar pattern developing in your example as developed in the 1850s? How was it similar? How did it differ?
2) Were the factions primarily based on location, culture, economics, ideology or a combination?
3) Was the development and solidifying of the factions inevitable? Was there another way the issue could have been addressed?
