WRITING ASSIGNMENT #3
In 350 -400 words, please respond to the following (points will be deducted for not meeting the minimum word count requirement):
Do you believe that systemwide racial inequalities exist in our crime and punishment system today? Do you believe policing has a race problem? Why or why not? Do you believe that programs like "stop and frisk" lead to racial profiling? Why or why not. What can be done to address these issues?
Before writing your response, read "Making Police Departments More Diverse Isn't Enough" on pgs. 135-136 in the State and Local Government textbook. You MUST use examples from the articles to support your argument in your response. You may do this either with direct quotes or paraphrasing but in either case you MUST cite this material in your essay.
For this response, you may also want to look at a few other outside sources of material for your response. Remember that if you take material from another source for your response, you must cite that material in your paper.
