Assignment task: Fashion in 1960s or 1970s with 5 different cultures name those cultures and sources cited of them and sources must include pictures that depict their fashion?
Make a composition on topics on and surrounding fashion or aesthetic of a historical or contemporary culture identity; the group chosen should be identifiable as a predominant/mainstream culture of the time and/or place, and it should be a topic that will NOT be covered in this course (we run up to the 1950's). Include at least 6 relevant sources. Potential topics to explore/ things to get your research rolling:
1. Do the styles of the culture revolve around function? Or do they reflect a specific aesthetic ideal?
2. Are style choices driven in some way by the region they are home to?
3. Is the style fashion or costume, and why? By what definitions?
4. Is the style inherent and specific to one group? Are there elements of this style seen in other groups or regions?
5. Are there experiences of appropriation or colonization engrained in the aesthetic?
6. Does this style of dress signify a specific political nationality? Is it a subset within a larger national identity or does is bleed across contemporary political boundaries?
