Problem:
Street takeovers in Los Angeles have become a serious problem because they turn normal streets into dangerous situations. These events usually start as simple car meets but quickly turn into reckless driving, blocked roads, and large crowds. During my field work in Los Angeles, I saw how fast these situations can get out of control. These takeovers affect drivers, pedestrians, businesses, and police, which make them an important issue that affects the criminal justice system.
In one situation, I went to a car meet expecting to just look at cars. About an hour later, everything changed. Cars started doing donuts in the street and blocking traffic. After a few minutes, people moved into a parking lot where one car kept doing donuts while a crowd stood very close around it. Other cars were revving their engines and shooting flames. The flames made loud popping noises that sounded like gunshots, which made the situation feel even more unsafe. This continued until the police showed up and cleared everyone out. This showed how quickly a normal car meet can turn into a dangerous street takeover.
In another situation, I was on my way to a liquor store when I noticed a crowd getting bigger. You could smell burning tires and hear cars doing donuts. Two cars were spinning in the street while people stood around watching. This happened on a Sunday during a busy time, so traffic was completely blocked and people could not get through. This show how street takeovers affect not just the people involved, but also regular people trying to go about their day.
I also saw how these events can lead to other crimes. At the same location, a man went into the liquor store and came out with a drink without paying, and some of his friends did the same. This shows how businesses can be affected. When there are large crowds and chaos, it becomes easier for people to steal or cause damage. This makes street takeovers more than just a traffic issue; they can also lead to theft as well.

Education is also important so people understand the risks and consequences. Businesses should also have better protection since they are often affected by these events.
Street takeovers in Los Angeles are a serious issue that affects the entire community. They create dangerous situations, block traffic, and can lead to crimes like theft. From what I observed during my field work, these events can get out of control very quickly. Because of the risks involved, street takeovers should be taken seriously and addressed with better enforcement, prevention, and community solutions to keep people safe. If the problem continues to grow, it could lead to even more injuries, property damage, and negative impacts on neighborhoods across Los Angeles.
