Assignment task: Rhetorical Analysis Essay
After watching the film, An American Tail, think of the ways in which the film treats issues of home, immigration, and identity in general. Write a rhetorical essay in which you discuss how the film captures the most important aspects and perhaps challenges or disrupts our notions of home, immigration and identity. The essay requires you to watch the film carefully. You may want to watch it multiple times in order to point out specific scenes or dialogues. As you write, assume that your audience has already seen the film. Therefore, it is not necessary for you to summarize the film. As you discuss your ideas, you may, however, need to briefly summarize segments of the film. Consider the following when drafting your essay:
- Choose your topic
- Craft a thesis statement/main idea/ purpose of the essay
- Decide on your supporting details (What evidence from the film will you use?)
- What Rhetorical Strategies are you using?
- How might you conclude your thoughts?
- Please provide details from the films support the topic and Cite
- Your essay should be 5-6 pages
